Why Should I Wall-mount My TV?
- It’s a safer option
There are many reasons why you should have your TV mounted. First and foremost, it is a safer solution than having it on a stand.
According to Consumer Reports, LG recalled four of its TV models due to tip-over concerns. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) stated that the TVs can become unstable while on an assembled stand, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that could result in injuries or death, especially to children.
I have small children, and I know I don’t trust the flimsy stands that came with my TVs to keep them safe. So, I have wall-mounted every TV in our house.
- It’s great for interior design
Another common reason to mount your TV is that it makes the room look nicer. With all the stylish TVs coming out nowadays (especially this one), you can hang your TV above your fireplace and display your lovely flat TV as if it were a beautiful painting.
You can even have a custom frame built around your flat-screen TV so that it actually looks like a picture frame and run a slide show of your favorite pictures of your kids. A friend of mine did that, and I am impressed every time I walk into their house. She also has her ring doorbell (which I can install as well) displayed on the TV when someone rings her doorbell.
- It saves space
Not only is mounting your TV safer and looks fantastic, but it also saves space. You will no longer need a stand for your TV. Now that most entertainment is streamed, you no longer need a place to store that large movie collection anyway. This is even better if you have a smaller living space.
- It gives you flexibility in selecting the desired height
By mounting your TV, you are no longer dependent on the height of your TV cabinet to determine the height of your TV. I have even seen people stack books up under the TV stands to raise the height, but this makes the TV even more unstable, which could lead to tip-overs.
- You get a great view from anywhere in the room
As we will discuss later in the article, there are all kinds of different TV mounts on the market. One common type is a full-motion bracket that can be swung out and rotated so you can view the TV from any angle. This is really helpful if you want to angle your TV so you can watch it while cooking dinner.
- It reduces glares
When your TV is mounted to the wall, annoying glares are no longer present. The TV can be moved to remove the glare regardless of which way the sun is shining.
How much does it cost to have my TV professionally mounted?
Having your TV professionally mounted is the safest way to ensure a safe and secure mount that will not fall and damage your expensive TV or hurt one of your family members.
Unfortunately, it’s impossible to give a hard answer to this question because many factors go into play when determining the cost of having a TV professionally mounted.
The cost of having your TV professionally mounted depends on the size of the TV, the type of mount, the installation location, and the complexity of the job.
- Size & Weight: Larger TVs are heavier and require more labor, so they will cost more to mount.
- Mount Type: A tilting or swiveling mount, or a fancy one like this, will increase the installation cost above that of a fixed mount.
- Installation location: If your TV is being mounted in a tight space or on plaster walls, this, too, will affect the cost of the mounting service.
- Installation complexity: A more complex installation, such as the one pictured below, will also cost more to install.
However, on average, having your TV professionally installed will cost between $150 and $360. More complex installations can cost up to $1,000.
If your goal is safety, I recommend starting out with a basic wall mount and a medium-sized TV. You could probably get it installed for around $150.

Can a TV be mounted to an uneven stone surface?
I get this question a lot, and the short answer is yes. A TV can absolutely be installed on an uneven stone surface. It looks very good, in my opinion.
However, there are several things to consider, and because it is a little more complex, you can expect to spend a little more on the installation.
Some extra supplies that may be required are:
- A mounting plate for creating a level surface
- Shims to fill gaps
- Paying special attention to make sure you are drilling into studs behind the uneven surface
- Masonry drill bits are required for drilling into stone
- Professional installation is highly recommended when installing a TV on uneven stone.
